These activities are prosecuted under Malaysia’s Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, with penalties ranging from substantial fines and imprisonment to much more severe punishments for trafficking offenses.
Medical cannabis
Malaysia has not legalized recreational cannabis. However, certain cannabis-based medicinal products may be available under a tightly regulated framework if they comply with Malaysian law and receive the necessary approvals. This does not allow individuals to possess or use cannabis freely, and bringing medical cannabis into Malaysia without authorization can still be illegal.
For visitors
If you’re traveling to Kuala Lumpur:

Do not bring cannabis, THC products, or cannabis flower into Malaysia.

Be cautious with CBD products as well—some may contain THC or otherwise fall under Malaysian drug laws.

Prescription cannabis that is legal in another country is not automatically legal in Malaysia.
If you’re visiting Kuala Lumpur, it’s safest to assume that all cannabis products are prohibited unless specifically authorized under Malaysian law.
