Stockholm has a cannabis scene, but it is much more underground and discreet than in cities like Amsterdam, Barcelona, or Berlin. Sweden has one of Europe’s stricter cannabis policies: recreational cannabis is illegal, including possession and personal use. There are no legal cannabis cafés or recreational dispensaries.
Cannabis use exists among some younger adults, nightlife crowds, and private social circles.

Stockholm’s nightlife is centered more around bars, clubs, and music scenes rather than cannabis culture.
Areas sometimes associated with cannabis visibility
These are not legal cannabis areas, but places where nightlife or public activity may make drug use more noticeable:
Södermalm – Known for alternative culture, cafés, music venues, and a younger crowd; cannabis use may occasionally be encountered privately or discreetly.
Gamla Stan (Old Town) – Tourist-heavy area with bars and nightlife; occasional reports of cannabis smell, but not a cannabis hub.
Central Stockholm / Norrmalm – Busy nightlife and entertainment zones where various substances may be present.
Some outer districts – Wastewater studies have found differences in drug-use patterns across Stockholm districts, with some outer areas showing higher cannabis indicators than others.
Legal reality
❌ Buying, selling, possessing, or using THC cannabis recreationally is illegal.
❌ No legal weed shops or coffeeshops exist.
✅ Some medical cannabis products are available under strict conditions.
CBD rules are also stricter than in many European countries, especially for products containing THC.
Overall: Stockholm has a cannabis-using subculture, but it is low-key, private, and shaped by strict laws rather than an open cannabis tourism scene.
