Penalties
For adults found using or possessing small amounts of cannabis:

Police may issue an on-the-spot fixed fine of €200.

In more serious cases, prosecutors may pursue criminal charges, with the law allowing penalties of up to 1 year in prison and a €3,750 fine, although this is generally reserved for more significant circumstances.
Medical cannabis
France has been working toward a permanent medical cannabis framework following its national pilot program. Access remains limited to approved medical pathways rather than general prescriptions or dispensaries.
CBD products
CBD products are legal only if they comply with French and EU regulations, particularly regarding THC limits and product standards. Products marketed legally in licensed shops should not produce intoxication.

France has strict drug-driving laws:
