The Bruges Local Police (Politie Brugge) actively monitors these locations with plainclothes police, surveillance cameras, and mobile patrols.
Key Areas of Informal Activity:
- ‘t Zand Square: As the city’s main open plaza and entertainment center, ‘t Zand has a strong police presence, especially on weekends, to prevent public drunkenness and street transactions.
- Bruges Railroad Station (Station Brugge) and Station Park: The neighboring transport hubs, parking garages, and adjacent station park are significant targets for street-level narcotics enforcement. Because of the heavy foot traffic and international train connections, local police undertake frequent patrols here.
- Koning Albert I-Park: Located near to the main station along the city’s southwest moat, this green space occasionally sees public usage, although it remains highly monitored by local law enforcement.
